Enjoying Learning, Achieving Success

Beautiful Butterflies

Our topic for Autumn Term 2024 is Invasion

In the Invasion project, the children will explore the effects of the Roman withdrawal and the chronology and geography of subsequent invasions. They will study the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings in detail, examining their reasons for invading, their settlements and their everyday life. The children will also look at monasteries and the Anglo-Saxon legacy. They will consider how we know about life in this period and investigate the Sutton Hoo ship burial. They will learn about Athelstan, an Anglo-Saxon king, and what happened after his death, before ending the project by learning about the Norman invasion of 1066.

Don't forget we will be visiting Lincoln Castle on Tuesday 10th September for our wow day to start our new topic. We will be leaving school promptly at 9am, therefore please can the children be at school for 8.40am. This will allow time for register and going to the toilet. The children will be required to wear school uniform. Please check the weather nearer the time and pack a raincoat if rain is forecast. The children will also need a packed lunch and a drink (no fizzy drinks please).

Homework week beginning 9.9.2024

  • Our times tables test on Friday 13th September will be the 10 x table.  Please practise with your child ready for the test.
  • The children will bring home a 60 second read on Tuesday 10th September and they will need to hand this in on Monday 16th September.
  • The children will bring home a set of spellings to learn on Tuesday 10th September ready for the spelling test on Monday 16th September.
  • Please log into TTRockstars. The children have their log in details in their homework diaries. As we are now focussing on mixed times tables, please log in and select Garage to play, as this will test the children on all the times tables. The children should be aiming to do this 4 times per week. I will be looking weekly to check how many times the children are practising.
