Music Information
At Bassingham Primary School, our music curriculum is designed to nurture a love of music and inspire every child to engage with music confidently and creatively. Through listening, singing, playing, improvising, composing and performing, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to flourish as musicians. We believe that every child is a musician and has the potential to succeed. By fostering creativity, resilience and self-expression, we empower children to see themselves as composers, performers and lifelong lovers of music.
At Bassingham Primary School, we provide many musical opportunities:
- Rocksteady music sessions
- Young Voices
- Experience of live musical performances
- Wider opportunities through enrichment sessions with a musical and drama focus
Charanga
Children follow an award-winning scheme called CHARANGA in school music lessons. Below is the curriculum that each year group follows throughout the year.

Young Voices
Bassingham Primary School is proud to have participated in the Young Voices programme for the past three years. Young Voices brings music education to life on an incredible scale, providing children with the opportunity to perform as part of the largest children’s choir concerts in the world.
Taking to the stage alongside 5,000–8,000 other young singers, our pupils perform to capacity audiences of family and friends in an unforgettable celebration of music. Singing as part of such a large choir, with their classmates and friends beside them, helps to develop self-belief, confidence, resilience and teamwork. It also encourages children to communicate effectively, support one another and experience the joy of achieving something truly special together.
Beyond the excitement of the concert itself, regular rehearsals provide numerous benefits for children’s wellbeing and development. Through singing and breathing exercises, pupils improve their focus, concentration and emotional wellbeing, while also developing their musical skills and a lifelong appreciation of music.
The Young Voices experience is an inspiring opportunity that enables our children to grow as confident performers, enthusiastic musicians and valued members of a team.
